Did you know that approximately 65 per cent of runner’s experience running related injuries each year?

These injuries are mainly caused by inefficient running patterns and an imbalance between how much training we are doing versus how much load our bones, muscles and tendons can withstand.

The 8 most common running injuries we see are:

  1. Runners knee
  2. Achilles tendon
  3. IT Band syndrome
  4. Shin Splints
  1. Hamstring injuries
  2. Plantar fasciitis
  3. Ankle sprains
  4. Stress Fractures

Whatever your running goal is, from just a run around the block to completing a marathon, we can help with a running assessment and specific programme of exercises to prepare and maintain your body for running load. Jared Faulkner our running physio uses the SFMA approach to assessing running injuries. SFMA stands for Selective Functional Movement Assessment. Out of the USA, this assessment offers a global outlook to how your body moves and how each component affects each other. It is an amazing tool to diagnose, especially for clients who have been receiving local treatment on their “injured” area, but is not getting much benefit or keeps getting reinjured on the same part – maybe other parts are involved and this is where the SFMA steps in.

We don’t just “treat” the painful part; that is because often we find the painful part isn’t always the main problem! It is trying to compensate for the “faulty” part that’s not in pain.

How a running assessment can help you…

  • Reduce your risk of injury
  • Eliminate recurring pain
  • Improve running performance
  • Exercises to stabilise and strengthen your core, hips, knees and ankles
  • Enable you to run without pain, stiffness or discomfort

Your 60 min assessment will involve the following…

  • Take and discuss your running history
  • Musculoskeletal assessment, including strength, function and flexibility of the muscles of your trunk and lower limb
  • Assessment of your running pattern
  • Running-specific exercise and intervention program
  • Shoe wear and surface advice ·
  • Further recommendations; for example, physiotherapy treatment, podiatry shoe recommendations

We will make specific recommendations to improve your running, increase your efficiency and reduce your risk to injuries.

Our aim is to keep you running!
